What’s in it for me? - Quick Rant

Sometimes it drives me crazy to think about the thousands of ads that are thrown into our faces on a daily basis. Companies are attempting to to tell us what to wear, drink, eat, etc. That’s not always a bad thing. It’s kind of how life works. But, the worst part? I have no desire or use for the products or services they’re shoving down my throat. It’s a huge waste of time, effort and money. Some companies, big and small, just don’t get it… Yet!

Here’s my solution: There’s this thing we like to call “WIIFM”. WIIFM stands for “What’s In It For Me?” This question has basic application in education, sales, marketing, recruiting, etc.

Essentially, WIIFM is all a customer cares about. Not everyone cares about the materialistic features of your uber-high-tech gadgetron. People want to know how said gadgetron will benefit them. How will this make the customer’s life or job easier? Answer that question and find the appropriate audience. That’s the way it really works.
